People have developed many theories and philosophies around the realization of success.

But while there is no single formula to arrive at success, I have consistently practiced some virtues which have proven highly effective in my successful endeavours.

First off, focus is a valuable key to arrive at success. It is a very potent tool for achieving results. A popular scenario about the raven and the eagle paints a vivid picture of the effectiveness of this virtue. Amongst many wild birds, it is only the raven that is audacious enough to attack an eagle, by clinging on its back and pecking its head. Focus drives more focus, and in the process, distractions ward off. Also, to be able to focus effectively, you have to ruthlessly eliminate anything that could be a distraction.

Patience moves mountains. You’ve probably heard it many times. It remains true, and is one of the key virtues you need to succeed in any venture. It is delightful to see success from our efforts. However, we sometimes want it almost instantaneously. It doesn’t always work like that. Everything that happens under the sun is bound by time, and it may vary for every individual. While it is normal to get worried when you’re not seeing progress although others are, it is wiser to be patient for your own due time, while continuing to do whatever is required of you. We might be tempted to seek success earlier than its due season, simply because others are making it already. Consider farming as a venture: Any farmer who does not have patience would get frustrated to see their crops yield. This is because, between seed time and harvest time is a waiting and working period that can only be endured only through patience. Once you’re sure about doing what is required of you, you would have to give yourself the grace of time to see results manifest.

Accepting failure as part of the success equation is another crucial factor in the success journey. Too many people are afraid to fail, and so have denied themselves the opportunity to see great potentials that can churn out of them. In order to properly manage failure, you should learn to appreciate its value. You should also avoid internalizing your failure, but rather recognize it as part of the success process.

While all the virtues I have mentioned are proven to be useful, the effective practice of prayer fortifies their practicality. Prayer does a lot of work man may not have the strength and power to undertake. To decide to pray, we must first understand that we were created by a designer—God. Because we have been created by God, and He has designed for us a purpose to fulfil, the best way to get insights about our purpose and objectives is to communicate with Him, through prayer. In our closets, when we communicate with God, he clearly directs us on what steps to take to achieve success.
